“Check it out – it’s the princess.”

“Aww, how cute; they still haven’t let her become queen yet!”

“Wassamatter, Ellie—still too young to fill your parents’ shoes?”

“And in that outfit, too, echh. Does she live in that dress?”

“Dress, nothing. I’m still staring at her carrot legs, hahaha!”

Elise had to go through this every day she went to school. Her fellow students took every chance they got to mock her. They would make fun of how she acted, what she usually wore, the fact that she was too young to be queen—and the worst part was, it practically never stopped throughout the entire day.

The teachers were of no help either, often ignoring her or calling her out for “tattling” on her classmates. This varied from class to class, but the end result was always the same—a very bad day.

The student who quite possibly gave her the worst attention possible was Sabrina Regis. Being the daughter of Soleanna’s governor made her rather self-centered and haughty already, but Sabrina was a special case in that out of all the students, she was the one who outright reviled Elise—mainly out of jealousy, since Elise was technically of a higher authority than her. But compared to Sabrina, all the other students seemed like angels.

Worse yet, both she and Elise had every single class together – even Homeroom.

Elise walked up to her locker, and started turning the dial on her lock before she felt someone breathing down her neck. An all-too-familiar feeling.

“Heya, ‘Princess’.”

Elise shuddered in disgust. “Hi, Sabrina,” she responded, almost deadpan.

Sabrina had a playful, teasing tone to her voice. Elise could tell she was enjoying herself. “So, how’dja spend your break? Still playing with that rusted old hand-me-down your dad called a sword?”

“Yes.” Elise barely raised her voice. She was pretty much used to Sabrina playing with her at this point.

Sabrina sighed. “When you are ever going to get a new one of those? You’re daddy’s sole heir, right – surely you’ve got the money to get the blacksmith to fix you up something.”

Elise put her palm to her face. “Sadly, no. All that money was split between the royal staff – none of it went to me.”

Sabrina clicked her tongue, putting her hands on her hips, in mock pity. “Poor, poor princess Elise. This just proves my point – daddy should have raised you better. That way, you’d at least get some of his life savings. I swear, royalty is so spoiled, isn’t it?”

Elise glared at Sabrina. “You’re one to talk,” she muttered through her teeth.

As if on cue, the school bell rang. Time to get to First Period.

“Oh!” Sabrina reacted to the bell in false surprise. “I’m so sorry, princess…did I distract you from getting your school supplies? Again?”

“Every time.” Elise didn’t even have to think about her reply.

“Aww, stupid me.” Sabrina was now faking regret for her actions. “I really need to stop running into you like this – I wouldn’t want you to fail your classes.” She paused, grinning. “…Oh, who am I kidding?” She laughed. “See you in History~!”

As soon as Sabrina left, Elise banged her head onto her locker door. “ALL. OF MY HATE.

Elise (Reboot) ~ Fractured Emotion
The princess heaved a great sigh before speaking.
“…We need to talk.”
She tried to maintain a proper, confident posture, and spoke in a calm, comforting voice.
“You have to stop looking down on yourself. It’s not going to change your people’s opinion of you. You’re going to need to work hard, harder than you’ve ever been, in order to gain their trust. On top of that, you don’t have your parents to help you. I know this sounds like a lot of work, not to mention a little disheartening, but that’s just me being straight with you. All you need to do for yourself is just be as positive as you can. Even if some people snap at you, you can’t let them get to you. Just smile…give them a wave, if you want…and stay strong. Your citizens may not believe in you…but I do.”
Princess Elise III was talking to herself in her mirror. She had been doing so for some time, ever since she was 12, in fact. Most of the ti

Elise (Reboot) ~ Vision
“Class, if you would, please open your textbooks to page 479. This week’s lesson shall be on the First Soleannan War.”
Elise sighed. The First Soleannan War…like I need to read about this again, she thought. The princess had already looked up all she could on Soleanna’s history from the castle’s vast library—when it was founded, the wars waged to claim it…even its very first official ruler, Empress Oliga.
It wasn’t like she could concentrate on the textbook, anyway—something was giving her quite the headache. Elise’s head had been pounding ever since the school day started, and only now was she really starting to feel it. She put one of her hands to her forehead in vain hope that it would stop the aching.
To make matters worse, Elise could hear Sabrina talking with her friends…and from what she heard, it sounded like she was being berated behind her back. So, pretty much the usual kind of banter she’d

Gotta say, this took quite a while for a shorter story. :XD:

But yes, I am still working on this. It's just taking about as long as it is to come up with another Meganekko comic. ;P

Either way, I hope you enjoy. :D
